Chugiak, Eagle River open CIC tourney with tough foes
Eagle River's Brandon King makes a save in a game earlier this season against East. The Wolves will face South at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Ben Boeke Arena in Anchorage with a berth in the state tournament on the line.

Game on.

The future of the prep hockey season comes down to single game tonight for Chugiak and Eagle River.

The No. 5 Mustangs open their Cook Inlet Conference tournament with a 7:15 p.m. battle with No. 4 East at the McDonald Center, while the no. 6 Wolves will face No. 3 South at 6:30 p.m. at Ben Boeke.

The stakes are high in the opening round in the tourney — and simple. Win, and a team is guaranteed a berth in the semifinals and one of the CIC's four berths in next week's state tournament. Lose, and the only guarantee is an end early-morning practices.

Dimond and Service have already punched their tickets to state. The No. 1 Lynx rolled No. 8 Bartlett 14-1 Monday night and No. 2 Service got by No. 7 West 3-1.
