Eagle River girls end long hoops losing streak
Eagle River’s girls basketball team has insisted all season that they’re an improving bunch. On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Wolves proved it with a 45-30 non conference win over Skyview in Soldotna.
The Wolves improved to 1-7 overall after picking up the program’s first victory since beating Service on Feb. 11, 2009.
The Wolves clamped down on Skyview from the outset, allowing just two first-half points and leading 27-13 at the half. Eagle River knocked down six 3-pointers in the game, including three by Dana Panfil, two from Lauren Frost and one by Mikayla Douglas.
Panfil led the Wolves with 15 points, Sam Coy had 12, Frost added nine, Sabrina Radliff had 6 and Douglas added three.
Cook Inlet 60, Eagle River 29
Eagle River dropped to 0-7 on the season with a 60-29 loss to Cook Inlet Academy on Jan. 20 in Soldotna.
The game was close after one quarter, but a 23-1 CIA run in the second proved to be the undoing for Eagle River, which scored just three points in the second and third quarters combined.
Lauren Frost had 10 points to lead Eagle River, which also got seven from Sam Coy and six from Dana Panfil.
West 54, Eagle River 29
Eagle River fell to 0-5 in the Cook Inlet Conference with a 54-29 loss at West on Jan. 25.
Panfil scored 12 points to lead the Eagle River attack.
Chanelle Zamora and Cece Cockerham each scored 10 points for the Eagles.
Mustangs corral Wolves
Eight different players scored for Chugiak as the Mustangs cruised to a 64-25 Cook Inlet Conference win over Eagle River on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CIC. The loss dropped Eagle River to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Madison McAleavey paced Chugiak with 16 points followed by Erinn Scotland with 13 and Jessi McMullen with 10.
Dana Panfil led the Wolves with 11 points. Lauren Frost chipped in seven.
Chugiak 71, South 39
Chugiak improved to 4-1 in the CIC with a 71-39 win over South on Jan. 24
Jessica Tramp scored 24 points and Erinn Scotland had 13 to lead the way for Chugiak, which got scoring from every player on the roster.
