Old Glenn reopened after crash sends 3 to hospital

UPDATE: The Old Glenn has been reopened, according to an update from APD sent out at 12:10 p.m. Thursday.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A two-vehicle crash on the Old Glenn Highway sent three people to the hospital and closed the road for several hours on Thursday.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, at around 7 a.m. a Honda Element driving south lost control and was struck by a Ford Explorer near the intersection of the Old Glenn and Darby Road. Police said the man driving the Element was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the woman driving the Explorer and a juvenile female passenger were taken to the hospial with what were described as minor injuries.

The Old Glenn between Monastery Drive and Darby Road was closed and as of 11:30 a.m. had yet to be reopened. Police were advising motorists to take alternate routes through the area, which is located about a quarter mile south of the Old Glenn/South Birchwood Loop intersection.
