Unrivaled Eagle River bowlers strike again to cap undefeated regular season
The kingpins of the Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League have struck again.
Defending league champions Eagle River rolled to a pair of lopsided victories over Service Thursday at Center Bowl in Anchorage, with the girls team shutting out the Cougars 35-0 and the boys winning 31-4.
The victories capped perfect 7-0 regular seasons for both teams.
The Wolves also had the day’s best individual scores, with Connor Lanehart posting the best boys score at 248 and Allison Szewczyk rolling a girls’ best 232. Lanehart also had a 233 for the Wolves, who also got a 233 from Kendric Siders.
The Chugiak girls also earned a win Thursday, with Jadyn Moore posting a team-high 185 in her team’s 20-15 win over South.
The Chugiak boys fell 31-4 to South despite getting a 236 — the day’s second-highest individual game — from Jerry Johnathan.
Thursday’s matches were the final regular-season team clashes of the season. On Thursday, Jan. 30, players will compete in the Varsity Shootout Tournament at the Jewel Lake Bowl.
The final event of the year is the position round event Feb. 6 at the Eagle River Bowl, where the hometown Eagle River girls will be looking to claim their fourth straight league title (and sixth overall) and the boys will be going for their second ASBL title and third in four years.
