Mustangs get better of Wolves at Palmer basketball tourney

Chugiak got some bragging rights Thursday after the school’s boys basketball team defeated Eagle River 56-38 in the first round of the Palmer Elks Shootout at Palmer High.

The Mustangs got a game-high 21 points from Owen Lewis, including four 3-pointers. Austin Harr added 12 points for Chugiak, which got seven from Jared Parks and six from Kellen Beam.

Shawn Padilla scored 12 points to lead Eagle River, which got eight from Roland Burley and six from Jack Lerch.

The Eagle River girls were scheduled to play Juneau-Douglas Thursday, but the game was postponed until Saturday after the Crimson Bears were held in Juneau due to windy weather. The Wolves girls will play Valdez at 2:30 p.m. Friday then twice on Saturday.

Also Friday, the Eagle River boys will face Valdez at 4:15 p.m. and the Chugiak boys will take on Palmer at 7:45 p.m.

Chugiak girls fall to Colony

The Chugiak girls dropped a nonconference basketball game Wednesday, falling 50-45 to Colony in Palmer.

BCS sweeps Tri Valley

Birchwood Christian rolled to a piar of lopsided wins over Tri-Valley on Thursday, with the Warriors boys winning 53-32 and the BCS girls taking a 29-16 win.
