Chugiak man arrested after stolen vehicle found in driveway

On Nov. 26 at around 6 p.m. police received a report that a red and white 1994 Ford pickup was stolen while parked unlocked outside a business with its keys inside.

About two hours later, police said they arrived at a residence on Helluva Street in Chugiak for a report that the stolen vehicle was parked in a driveway and arrested Brandon M. McElroy, 34, of Chugiak on charges of first- and second-degree vehicle theft.

Assault claim found unfounded

On Nov. 25 at around 12:17 p.m. police responded to Mirror Lake Middle School for a report of an assault on a student that allegedly occurred off school grounds the night before. Police said they could find no evidence to support the claims of an assault.

No updates on robbery

Police said Monday they have no updates or additional suspect information and have made no arrests in a robbery that took place Nov. 26 at the Vitus convenience store in Chugiak.

Underage drinking reported

On Nov. 27 at around 1:40 p.m. a student at Mirror Lake Middle School was caught drinking alcohol during school hours; police said charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Sleeping man arrested

On Nov. 29 at around 7:57 p.m. police were called for a report of a man sitting in a vehicle who the caller said appeared to be intoxicated. Police arrived and found Gary E. Rowles, 61, asleep in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Police said Rowles refused to perform field sobriety tests and he was arrested for operating under the influence. Police said that after arriving at the jail, Rowles refused to provide a breath sample so a warrant was obtained and his blood was drawn for testing.

Man arrested after citizen call

On Nov. 29 at around 12:51 a.m. police received a call from a driver who said a gray Chevy Silverado pickup was swerving on the Glenn Highway. Police said officers conducted a traffic stop on the Silverado and arrested Maxwell O. Atemba, 31, of Wasilla for operating under the influence.

Police allege man was driving high

On Nov. 30 at around 3:08 a.m. police said an officer stopped a 1996 Chevy pickup for speeding on the Glenn Highway and arrested driver Connor R. Kirton, 20, of Palmer for operating under the influence of suspected marijuana.

Construction site burglarized

On Nov. 30 at around 9:50 a.m. police received a report that a home under construction on Golden Eagle Drive had been burglarized, with several tools stolen from the site.
