Chugiak’s Daniel Niebles remained undefeated on the high school wrestling season with a second-round pin of West’s Caedmon Crowley during a dual match at Chugiak High Tuesday night.

The 189-pound senior was one of five CHS wrestlers to win by fall, but the Eagles used superior team depth to earn a 46-30 team victory. Also earning pins for the Mustangs were Tristan Petrykievicz (140 pounds), Calvin Daugherty (145), Grant Jones (152) and Justin Lafferty (160).

The only match to go all three periods came when West’s John Lavarias earned a major decision over the Mustangs’ Tony Inguagiato.

The dual was one of two in Chugiak-Eagle River Tuesday as local wrestlers got in their last takedowns before Thanksgiving.

At Eagle River High, the Wolves fell 73-6 to South, which earned seven pins, two technical falls and three forfeits. The Wolves’ lone victory came at 189 pounds, where Andrew Hamilton pinned Joseph Paulson 1:03 into the second period.

As with the Chugiak-West match, only one bout went the distance — South’s James Shivers 8-2 win over Eagle River’s James Salter at 171 pounds.

Wrestlers are off until Wednesday, Dec. 4, when Eagle River will travel to Chugiak for a 7 p.m. dual in the final regular-season meet of the year.
