UPDATE (Nov. 6, 2019) — A broken water line that caused a Glenn Highway onramp to be closed for more than a day has been repaired.

The Municipality of Anchorage issued an alert early Wednesday morning saying the southbound North Eagle River ramp had been reopened.

Municipal crews are working to fix a broken water line that has forced the temporary closure of the southbound Glenn Highway on-ramp at the North Eagle River exit.

The incident was first reported at around 10:45 a.m. Monday, when the Anchorage Police Department said in an online alert that a traffic accident caused a water main break. No timeline has been given for the on-ramp to reopen.

Southbound drivers hoping to leave Eagle River via the Glenn Highway are being detoured around the on-ramp to either the South Birchwood or Eagle River exits. The North Eagle River exit’s northbound highway on-ramp — as well as the northbound and southbound off-ramps from the Glenn leading into Eagle River — are unaffected by the closure.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
