Police say Gruening student was arrested after making threats
A Gruening Middle School student was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly making threats against other students.
According to a Nixle alert issued by the Anchorage Police Department, a School Resource Officer at the school — which is currently located on the campus of Chugiak High School on South Birchwood Loop — received a report of the threat at around 9:15 a.m.
“A juvenile male student had made verbal threats against students,” police wrote. “The student was identified, located, questioned and arrested.”
The matter is being handled by the Department of Juvenile Justice, police said.
Gruening Middle School students have been attending classes at Chugiak High since the Nov. 30, 2018 earthquake, which caused extensive damage to the middle school on Lee Street in Eagle River. Gruening is slated to be repaired at a cost of around $24 million.
