Wolves, Mustangs net big prep tennis wins

Eagle River and Chugiak picked up Cook Inlet Conference victories Thursday in Anchorage.

At Begich Middle School, Eagle River swept the singles and girls doubles matches to earn a 6-3 win over Service.

Jillian Mullen and Mikayla Johnson won girls singles matches for the Wolves, Griffin Marson and Cam Witte won boys singles matches and the doubles squads of Ella Bryner/Sarah Von Luhrte and Lila Wegener/Lily Singleton took the girls doubles matches.

At East High, the Mustangs got wins in three of four singles matches and four of five doubles matches to claim a 7-2 team win. Riley Fugere (boys No. 1 singles) and Emilee Groth (girls No. 1 singles) won in two sets each, while Tyler Winborg (boys No. 2 singles) rallied from a first-set loss to win in a tiebreaker.

Doubles winners included Ted Nichols/Kaleb Hendershot (boys No. 1 doubles), Robert Wanek/Enrique Osses (boys No. 2 doubles), Risa Otani/Megan Anshutz (girls No. 1 doubles) and Francis Wanek/Bethany Kesler (mixed doubles).

Local tennis teams are competing in the Anchorage Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Alaska Club East and the Anchorage Park Strip.
