Derryk Snell is officially a Division I college football player — and he’s got the stats to prove it.

A 2018 Chugiak High grad, Snell caught his first career pass in FCS Division I Montana State’s 45-10 loss to FBS squad Texas Tech on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound redshirt freshman tight end caught one pass for four yards in the loss to the Red Raiders in his first collegiate game.

Snell signed with Montana State following one of the most dominant seasons in Chugiak football history. The two-way All-State performer was twice named the Alaska Offensive Player of the Year and won the 2017 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year award as the top player in Alaska after racking up 37 offensive touchdowns for the Mustangs, who won the Railbelt Conference and reached the 2017 Alaska Division I semifinals.

Montana State is ranked No. 13 in the most recent NCAA Division I FCS poll. The Bobcats reached the national semifinals last season, losing to eventual national champion North Dakota State in December.
