LETTER: Anti-Eaglexit letter was disappointing
I wanted to thank Debbie for her casual and cursory review of our Eaglexit movement (“Letter: No to Eaglexit,” Anchorage Daily News). Unfortunately, it is disappointing when conclusions such as her’s are jumped to without a civil and open discussion. We have a large presence of good people in Assembly District 2 (Eagle River, Chugiak, Birchwood, Peters Creek and Eklutna) who are very open and engaged in an active dialog regarding Eaglexit. To ad hominem her fears and concerns is a poor approach to ever beginning to investigate an issue as complex as Eaglexit. As a father of a Tlingit family as well as grand-father of Haitian (Black) born grand-children, I am always amazed at the prejudice which prevails when some people just don’t take the time to get the facts. Although I myself am Italian and I don’t identify as “white”, I am proudly a Christian as well as pro-life. To blindly attack these attributes are as undignified and uncivil as to attack any other race, class, ethnicity, or religion. Shame on all of us for not taking the time to communicate in an era when communication is so quick and simple. Regarding “few government regulations” and Assembly District 2 having its own school district, is that bad? I invite to a cup of coffee to share what we are doing and why we are doing it. What say you?
