Chugiak musher Kourosh Partow parlayed a home-course advantage into a dominant win Sunday on the final day of the Eagle River Classic sprint races at Beach Lake Park.

Partow’s team had the fastest run for the second day in a row, crossing the finish line more than a minute faster than Michael Tetzner in the Open Class race. Partow’s two-day time was 91 minutes, 51 seconds — nearly five minutes faster than Tetzner’s.

Gary Markley finished third overall, Bill Kornmuller was fourth, Lance Mackey finished fifth and Matt Paveglio was sixth.

Chistochina’s Evelyn Beeter claimed victory in the 8-dog class by posting the fastest times each day over the 8-mile 8-dog course. Carl Erhart rallied to grab second while Jerry Woods was third.

Pam Schamber was the weekend’s biggest winner, claiming victory in the 6-dog and 4-dog mushing classes as well as the 2-dog skijor event. Rebecca Shaffer won the 1-dog skijor race.
