Mustangs open CIC volleyball tournament 1-1, face West in loser-out match Friday
Chugiak’s high school volleyball season is on the line Friday as the Mustangs face a loser-out match against West at the Cook Inlet Conference Volleyball Tournament at 5:30 p.m. at Service High.
No. 3 seed Chugiak opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Service, but fell 3-0 to second-seeded South Thursday night to set up Friday night’s showdown against the No. 4 Eagles.
The winner will advance to a 2 p.m. match against the winner of Friday afternoon’s Service vs. Bartlett match — with the winner of that match earning one of the CIC’s three automatic berths in the state tournament.
Eagle River was knocked out of the tournament on Wednesday after falling 3-0 to Service.
The tournament’s lone undefeated teams — Dimond and South — will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a berth in the CIC championship match Saturday. Both teams have already qualified for state.
