POLICE BRIEFS: Stolen truck recovered, rifle still missing

Stolen vehicle recovered; rifle, other items missing

On May 3 at around 12:43 p.m., police received a report that an unlocked 2007 Chevy Silverado with its keys and a rifle inside was stolen from a work site on Lacey Drive. Three days later, the truck was found stuck on a trail near the intersection of West 91st Avenue and Vernon Street in Anchorage with a different licence plate attached.

Police said the rifle and other items were missing from the inside the vehicle, as were some parts of the Chevy itself.

Speeder charged

An 18-year-old Ketchikan man was arrested at around 4 a.m. on April 30 after police say he was pulled over for driving 81 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on the Glenn Highway. According to APD, Troy D. Harris was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

Burglar uses stolen credit cards

On April 30 at around 4 p.m., police received a report that someone entered an unlocked garage on Crested Butte Drive and got into a vehicle that was also unlocked. Police said the thieves stole credit cards from inside the car, then later used the cards at several retailers.

Homeowner interrupts attempted break-in

Police were called to the 5700 block of Hiland Road at around 6:16 a.m. on April 30 for a report that a woman walking her dog interrupted a man trying to break into her garage window. Police said two men drove off in “an older-model boxy brown SUV.”

Thieves hit fenced-in yard

On April 30 at around 7 a.m., police responded to a report that someone had broken into the Udelhoven Oilfield System Services yard overnight. According to police, the suspects damaged a gate and fence, cut locks of conex trailers and stole items from inside.

Mac Center burglarized again

The McDonald Center was burglarized on May 5 for the second time this spring. According to police, someone broke into the building by breaking the front window of the facility. Once inside, the miscreants broke a clock and poured juice from a fridge onto the floor. The center also had a window broken in mid-April.
