Eagle River played a spirited first half Friday night in their season opener against the Wasilla Warriors. They led the game twice, caused and recovered fumbles deep in enemy territory, intercepted a pass for a touchdown, but stumbled in the second half allowing a pair of scores to finally succumb by a 29-14 margin.

Linebacker Jordan Porter intercepted a pass for a 60-plus yard touchdown return and Thad Heagy’s first half pass to JT Adams split a pair of Wasilla defenders for a long scoring pass and run. But the Wolves couldn’t capitalize on a fumble recovery by Grant Barkhurst on the Warriors’ three-yard line, and from there the Wolves allowed a pair of second half scores to finish the game.
