After finishing third a year ago, Eagle River High senior wrestler Marcus Amico capped his career with the individual title at 152 pounds in the state championships last Saturday at Bartlett High.

Amico, who was 28-2 this year, won a 16-8 decision against Ethan Shumaker of North Pole, who had also only lost twice this season.

Amico was the only Wolf to place, while Chugiak High had four medalists including three runners-up.

CHS junior Dawson Budke had a hard luck finish as he had to withdraw from the championship match with an injury, taking second at 160 pounds to Rami Pellumbi of South High. Budke finished the season 31-4.

Teammate Max Ditzler of Chugiak took fifth at 160 pounds, finishing his career with a win over Christain Kurka of Palmer.

Mustangs senior Brandon Lowe lost a narrow 3-1 decision in the championship round at 170 pounds to Robert Haan of Colony. Lowe finished the season 35-6.

At 220 pounds, CHS Senior Blake Johnston also took second place, dropping a 11-6 decision to undefeated Josh Miller of Lathrop.
