Combined girls hockey team dealt pair of shutouts

Alaska Star Staff

The members of the combined Chugiak and Eagle River high school girls hockey team were shut out in their quest for the first win of the season, falling to the South-Bartlett team and the Service-East squad last week.

The week opened with an 8-0 loss to the South-Bartlett squad Nov. 17 and closed with a 5-0 decision against Service-East Friday. The second loss was hard to swallow for the local skaters as they had played to a 3-3 draw earlier this season.

Goalie Cierra Carr, in her first year between the pipes, had her hands full in turning countless shots away in both games, as the Chugiak-Eagle River girls team was out-shot, 33-7, and 26-15, in respective games.

The team was so busy playing defense that it was unable to mount any sustained offensive attack in either game.

Results from the team's games against Mat-Su, Monday, and against Dimond-West, Tuesday, were not yet available at press time.

Following the Thanksgiving Break, the team resumes play Dimond-West Dec. 8.

The high school hockey season continues through Jan. 30.
