The Eagle River High School boys bowling team rolled over the Chugiak boys Nov. 19, scoring a 10-2 win in a showdown of the two local high schools at Jewel Lake Bowl.
While the boys team cruised to an easy win the girls from both schools could not determine which team was best as they finished in a 6-6 tie.
Junior Tucker Reed paced the Wolves boys, which won two games of the three-game set and rolled a huge total pin package of nearly 3,000 pins.
"I think they all had fun because they all know one another," said longtime Eagle River High coach Lynn Kocher.
Tucker threw down a 215 game in the third-game, the day's best score from members on either team. He also had a team-best 563 series.
"I think it's his all-time best score - I didn't ask him," said Kocher.
Teammate Aaron Wardle, who rolled a 752-series a week earlier, contributed games of 170, 172 and 188 this week.
Wardle's total of 530 pins was second-best series among the Wolves and Mustangs bowlers.
Chugiak's two points came in the second game, with Tom Muldoon and Jon Duft posting scores of 166 and 158, respectively, according to Chugiak coach Jeff Hardy.
Hardy said he felt that his girl's team should have won.
"If we would have caught a break in that second game we would have taken another two points and won," said Hardy.
Junior Holly Williamson and sophomore Mariah Schiefer pace the Chugiak bowlers, with both rolling their best games in the final frames of the day, rolling a 174 and 167 respectively.
Their scores in the third game gave the total-pin points to Chugiak, 2,274-2,210.
Destinie Rainer paced Eagle River girls with games of 139, 150 and 143.
Hardy said the team is showing steady improvement as the season progresses.
"I've seen an improvement from nearly everyone on the team. It's nice that they get series for the meets," he said. "But they all having fun - and that's important."
The two teams return to action Dec. 3, with the meet held at Eagle River Bowl, with Eagle River hosting Bartlett and Chugiak facing East. Games begin at 3:30 p.m.
Kocher expressed some trepidation at the girls face powerhouse Bartlett.
"I hope it's different this year. Bartlett has always killed us in the past," she said.
