Savanah Wiltfong, an Eagle River High School student and budding actress, is the star of the new film, "Dear Lemon Lima," which plays 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and Dec. 13 at Bear Tooth Theatrepub, as part of the Anchorage International Film Festival.
Wiltfong was selected to play the lead role of a half-Yupik girl named Vanessa Lemor who is navigating her way through her first heartbreak while living at a prep school in Fairbanks. The film was made, however, during six weeks in Seattle, and during the summer.
In learning the meanings of love, friendship and community, Wiltfong's character finds her voice by embracing her heritage and reclaiming the spirit of the World Eskimo Indian Olympics.
"Dear Lemon Lima" is a family comedy, written and directed by Suzi Yoonessi.
"I couldn't believe it," Savanah said, when interviewed about the film in May. "It was all like a dream. It was stressful, but it was also so cool."
