Alaska One Public Television Network in Fairbanks has issued a call for art for its 2006 Poster Design contest.

"Postcard from Ketchikan," the work of Chugiak-Eagle River quilt artist Linda Beach, was selected in KUAC Alaska One's 2005 poster design contest. The 11-year resident of Peters Creek, said she has never been to Ketchikan but was inspired by a photograph her father took while on an Inside Passage cruise.

Each year, the selected art is featured on posters that are given as gifts to contributors during KUAC's spring membership drive benefiting public broadcasting. Beach has been a quilt artist for 12 years and said she was impressed by both the process and the finished product.

Her quilt, which took three weeks to complete, was professionally photographed and made into what Beach calls "top class prints comparable to anything you will find in a gallery."

"They even consulted me on the (poster's) background," she said. "I would greatly encourage anyone out there who wants to apply. They were very accommodating and it was a fun experience."

Entries for the 2006 Poster Design contest are being accepted though Jan. 6 and will be judged by a selection committee. Eligibility requirements are: Entrants must reside in Alaska; artist may submit up to three slides or art on a CD (high resolution jpeg or pdf file); entries must be personally submitted by the artist; previously shown work is accepted; and all artwork must have been completed within the last five years.

Box 755620, 312 Tanana Dr., Fairbanks, AK 99775-5620. To have entry returned, include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
