Traffic accidents close Glenn
A pair of vehicle accidents closed down parts of the Glenn Highway Friday and Monday, according to Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. David Parker.
Anchorage Police Dispatch received numerous calls regarding a young male driving recklessly Friday. The witnesses who called in estimated the vehicle's to be speed at times around 100 mph.
The suspect driver, 20-year-old Edward Charles, struck the rear of George Bruce's vehicle.
The 85-year-old Bruce, who was driving his 1999 Subaru Outback inbound, rolled over in a ditch near Granny's Grocery in Peters Creek.
Charles was charged with assault and driving under the influence. He was remanded to the Anchorage Jail with his bail set at $5,000.
Chugiak Volunteer Fire Department Medics responded to the scene and transported Bruce to the Mat-Su Valley Hospital for minor injuries.
A multi-vehicle accident near the north Eagle River overpass on the Glenn Highway disrupted the morning commute Monday. Parker reported that an accident between a pair of cars inbound on the Glenn Highway set off a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.
The morning commute was backed up for several hours while APD investigated the collision and cleaned up the scene.
