Man uses hatchet in attack
Anchorage police responded Sept. 7 to a report of a disturbance on Park Drive in Chugiak. Police found four men arguing after drinking outside a home on the street. One of the men used the blunt end of a hatchet to strike one man in the head and another in the arm, said police spokeswoman Anita Shell. The men were uncooperative with police. They chose not to press charges, said Shell.
Police looking for tire thief
Anchorage police detectives Sherry Price and Helen Rhea are investigating the theft of dozens of tires from a local all-terrain vehicle shop. Rhea said the theft occurred sometime late Friday or early Saturday. The detectives are asking anyone with any information regarding the theft to call 786-8500.
Under the influence
Eric Newland, 32, of Anchorage was charged Friday with driving under the influence on the Glenn Highway near Fort Richardson. Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell said Newland was driving erratically and flipped his car, which rolled twice before coming to rest on its wheels. Officers arrested Newland, who smelled of alcohol, had drug paraphernalia and refused to submit to a sobriety test, said Shell.
Anchorage Fire Department medics attend to Herschel Warner, 23, of Palmer, Friday after extracting him from his vehicle following a collision on the North Eagle River Glenn Highway overpass. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get Warner from the vehicle following the wreck. No one was seriously injured in the accident.
