Local volleyball team plays well in National Festival in Arizona
The local Girls Alaska Volleyball Association just returned from another successful trip to the National Volleyball Festival in Phoenix - the largest girls tournament in the nation with about 500 teams in seven age divisions.
The AVA 16Us team played a grueling schedule of 32 games during five days against mostly tough Southern California and Arizona teams, completing play on July 3, reported coach Gary Steinfort, formerly the girls varsity coach at Chugiak High School.
Many of the team’s players are from Eagle River, Chugiak and Mat-Su Valley. This was the second successful out-of-state trip for an AVA team this year.
