Local runners do well in Bird Ridge run

Local youth from the Chugiak-Eagle River area had a banner day during the Bird Ridge run June 21. The race is a traditional warm-up for Mt. Marathon, which will be held in Seward Saturday.

Area youth packed seven positions among the top 10, including race winner Ben Russell of Eagle River High. Other top finishers included Keegan Crow, third; Shane Topf, fourth; Connor Sperry, sixth; Rachel Russell, seventh; Matt Lowery, ninth; and Nathan Sperry, 10th.

Rachel Russell was the first girl to the top.

Locals also participated in the adult race, many placing among the top 50 finishers, including Hugh Gren, 12th; Tony Statonbarker, 21st; Alex Babos, 28th; Todd Lowery, 31st; and Pete McEnaney, 44th.
