With an April that has yielded record snowfall locally, the Chugiak High School Mustangs girls' varsity softball team had two games postponed last week.
The Mustangs, who placed first in conference last year, were scheduled to play Service and Lathrop on April 23 and April 24, respectively, but those games were cancelled, said head coach Jim Iagulli.
Chugiak was slated to play South Monday, and West Wednesday.
“The South game won't happen, and it's not likely that we'll get the West game in either,” said Iagulli Sunday.
“It all depends on how quickly the snow melts,” said the longtime coach, referencing the 20-inch dump of snow that blanketed the Anchorage Bowl Friday and Saturday.
Iagulli, acknowledging the inconvenience, said he is actually OK with the delay.
“I'm not a big fan of playing just three games a week. I'd rather play five or six games a week,” he said. “I guess it's back to the 20 games in 21 days routine; we've done that before. It just means that it will be busy. That's fine.”
