Man stopped while trying to break into, not out of, Oregon jail

MEDFORD, Ore. — Police said a man climbed over a fence and tried to break into the Jackson County Jail Jan. 25. Medford Police Lt. Bob Hansen said jail officials spotted a man scaling the fence around an area where officers unload potential prisoners and take them inside. The officials called police.

Officers said the 28-year-old man was distraught and said he had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. He told officers he was trying to get help at the jail and when he didn't get an answer at the front entrance, he decided to go around back.
