Ted Walters, 16, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on December 1, 2011. Ted's Eagle project consisted of painting more than 120 fire hydrants in Eagle River. He and his crew of Troop 230 Boy Scouts and community volunteers spent several weekends preparing and painting these fire hydrants. Several were personalized and decoratively painted, including those near Walmart, Gruening Middle School, and the Lions Club. A sophomore at Chugiak High School, Ted has served as Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Quartermaster and Den Chief since starting Boy Scouts in 2007. He has earned 42 merit badges to date. Ted's Boy Scout career has taken him to the Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico, the National Jamboree in Washington DC, Katmai National Park and Chilkoot National Historic Trail in Canada, among others. Ted plays hockey for the Chugiak High varsity hockey team, AllStars U16AAA Hockey Association, is the equipment manager for Mustang Hockey and volunteers at the Eagle River Food Bank.
Ted is the son of Frank and Janine Walters. Ted joins his Eagle Scout brother, Nick Walters, and sister JoEllen Walters, a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, in earning this prestigious award.
