Chugiak will open the 2019 ASAA/First National Bank Alaska State Softball Tournament with a pair of games Thursday at Cartee Fields in Anchorage.

The Mustangs will face Dimond at 12:15 p.m. and West Valley at 5 p.m. in round-robin pool play.

The Mustangs advanced to the state tournament with a pair of wins last week at the Cook Inlet Conference tournament.

Chugiak won its opening game of the CIC tournament 11-9 over Dimond on May 21, then fell 2-1 to South the following day. That set up a loser-out game May 23 against Bartlett, which the Mustangs won 12-2 to claim one of the CIC’s four state berths.

Eagle River also started the CIC tournament with a win, knocking off Bartlett 10-2 in the tournament opener May 21. The Wolves fell 11-3 to East on May 22 and dropped a 15-11 decision to Dimond the following day to fall one win short of state.

The final games of the CIC tournament were not played May 24-25 due to rain.
