Chugiak track team heads to Palmer on a hot streak
Chugiak’s boys track and field team continued to show why they’re the team to beat this season with another impressive victory Saturday at the Anchorage Invitational meet at Dimond High.
The Mustangs racked up 129 points to outdistance second-place West Valley by 22.5 points.
Sprinter Jeremiah Wilson was first in the 200 meters and second in the 100 for the Mustangs, who also got a victory from Daniel Bausch in the 3,200 and second-place finishes from Jacob Lestina in the 400, Wyatt Rohde in the 300 hurdles and Hyrum Nelson in both the 800 and 3,200. Chugiak also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Carter Gladwill finished third in the 400 and 800 to lead the 10th place Eagle River boys.
The Chugiak girls also finished on the podium in third place with 77 points, just seven behind team champion Dimond (84) and second-place South (81). Brooklynn Gould led the Mustangs with a victory in the 300 hurdles and a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles. Breanna Day finished second to Eagle River’s Emily Walsh in the 3,200 for Chugiak, which also won the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.
Walsh also finished second in the 800 and 1,600 for the fifth-place Eagle River girls, who got a win from Morgan Bolin in the 100 hurdles.
Teams will travel to the Mat-Su this weekend for the Palmer Relays on Friday and Saturday at Palmer High.
