Local squads begin CIC hoops tourney Wednesday

All four local high school basketball teams will need to rebound in the Cook Inlet Conference tournament that begins Wednesday after taking losses in their final CIC games of the season.

At Chugiak on Friday, the Mustang boys fell to 1-13 in the CIC with a 69-47 loss to Bartlett while the girls dropped a 58-55 decision to finish 8-6 in the CIC.

At Dimond, Eagle River was swept by the first-place Lynx, with the boys falling 78-43 and the girls losing 72-32.

In the girls tournament, the No. 8 seed Eagle River girls (0-14) will face No. 5 East (8-6) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at East High, with the winner facing No. 4 seed Chugiak (8-6) at 3 p.m. Thursday at West.

In the boys tournament, No. 8 seed Chugiak (1-13) will visit No. 5 seed South (7-7) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, while No. 7 seed Eagle River (2-12) will travel to No. 6 Service (5-9) for an 8 p.m. clash. The winners will advance to Thursday’s quarterfinals at West.
