POLICE BRIEFS: Uber driver says juvenile passenger flashed her

Uber driver claims passenger flashed her

On Feb. 6 at around 4:48 p.m., police were contacted by an Uber driver who said a juvenile male passenger exposed his genitals before getting out of the vehicle at a location on Sun Valley Drive. Police said they contacted the juvenile, who denied the accusations; police said that since there were no independent witnesses they did not have probable cause to support any charges.

Man charged with hitting mailbox

On Feb. 3 at around 2 a.m. police said a witness told police Ryan J. Johnson, 37, of Eagle River, struck at least one mailbox while driving a 2009 Dodge. Police responded to Johnson’s home and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident.

Officer tracks down prowler

On Feb. 4 at around 2:49 a.m., an APD officer patrolling in the area of South Montague Loop and Shemya Drive spotted footprints in the snow that seemed to be going from parked car to parked car. Police said the officer followed the tracks, which led them to James C. Kirchner, 49, of Anchorage allegedly standing behind a truck in a driveway that wasn’t his. During a pat-down search, police said they found two credit cards that did not belong to Kirchner. He was arrested and taken to the Anchorage Jail on two counts of second-degree theft.

Man with knife spotted jumping fences

On Feb. 5 at around 4:16 p.m., police received a call from a person who said a man was carrying a knife and jumping fences between yards on Hidden Haven Drive. Officers arrived in the area and found one house that appeared to have been ransacked but had nobody home. Police said they returned to the home later and the residents said several items had been taken. The case remains under investigation.

Cord-swinging man tased

On Feb. 8 at around 7:42 p.m., medics requested police assistance with a man who had become combative. Police said the man, Jonathan M. Tester, 49, of Chugiak, was allegedly swinging a power cord violently at medics. Police said Tester approached them as they were speaking to medics, so they attempted to take him into custody. Tester allegedly tried to resist and was tased. He stopped resisting after that, police said. Tester was taken to the Anchorage Jail on four counts of third-degree assault and one count of resisting arrest.

Smash and grab reported

On Feb. 9 at around 3 p.m. police received a report that someone broke out a window at a vehicle parked at the Harry McDonald Center and stole a purse sitting in plain view.

Police make DUI arrests

On Feb. 7 at around 5:36 a.m., police stopped a vehicle for allegedly driving 30 MPH below the posted speed limit and arrested Robert E. Sanders, 51, of Anchorage for operating under the influence.

On Feb. 10 at around 4:31 a.m., police were called by a citizen who reported a blue Ford was swerving and being driven without headlights on the Glenn Highway. Police stopped the vehicle near the Arctic Valley exit and arrested George R. Mark, 37, of Quinhagak for operating under the influence.
