CIC hoops: Chugiak girls roll early, boys fall late to Service

Chugiak and Service split a pair of Cook Inlet Conference basketball doubleheader Friday night at Chugiak.

The Chugiak girls opened the evening with a 63-12 rout of the Cougars, with the Service boys returning the favor in a 50-34 runaway win over the Mustangs in the nightcap.

Eva Palmer scored a game-high 17 points for the Chugiak girls, which improved to 1-1 in the CIC. Layla Beam added 12 points and Chasity Horn had nine for the Mustangs, who led 44-2 after the first half and didn’t allow a field goal until the third quarter.

In the boys game, Service used a 22-9 third quarter to pull away from the Mustangs (0-2) after leading 20-15 at the half.

Jackson Wall scored 12 points to lead Chugiak, which also got six points each from Robert Sheldon and Austin Harr.

Brandon Gall scored a game-high 13 to lead the Cougars.
