Girls hockey team comes up just short

Chugiak/Eagle River came up just short in its bid for a first girls hockey win of the season Friday, falling 4-3 to Dimond/West at the Dempsey-Anderson Ice Arena in Anchorage.

Briana Paxson scored twice in the first period and Erin Bernard added a second-period goal to give the team a 3-2 lead heading into the final period. But Dimond/West got third-period goals from Kaylee Larson and Hannah Gross to complete the comeback.

Carter Nelson made 42 saves on 46 shots in an emergency start for Chugiak/Eagle River. Nelson normally plays for South/Bartlett, but stepped in because Chugiak/Eagle River starter McKinley Gray was out of state.

Morgan Richards had an assist for Chugiak/Eagle River, which is off until Jan. 11, when the team takes on South/Bartlett at 7:30 p.m. at Dempsey-Anderson.
