POLICE BRIEFS: Cops called over road rage claim

On Dec. 3 at around 4:33 p.m., police received a report of a possible road rage incident on the Glenn Highway. According to police, the driver of a red 1992 Geo was reportedly driving southbound on the Glenn Highway near the North Eagle River exit when an unknown pickup truck (police said it may have been a brown Dodge) drove up behind the car and turned on its off-road lights. Police said the Geo driver said they hit their brakes, causing the driver of the pickup to run into the back of the Geo. Police said the pickup then allegedly rear-ended the Geo twice more before taking the South Eagle River exit.

Police said the driver of the Geo did not need medics, and officers noted the damage on the vehicle appeared to be old. No arrests were made in the case.

Weaving driver arrested

On Dec. 6 at around 7:10 p.m., police received a call from a driver on the Glenn Highway who said they were following a Mazda that was driving well below the speed limit, weaving and stopping without warning. Officers were able to locate the Mazda and arrested driver Caryn L. Nelson, 39, of Anchorage for operating under the influence of a suspected prescription medication.

Vehicle reported stolen later recovered

On Dec. 6 at around 7:23 p.m., police received a report from a man who they’d arrested that a woman he asked to drive a vehicle from the scene where he was arrested had not delivered the vehicle to a relative for safekeeping. Police said the vehicle was later recovered.

Sleeping man arrested

On Dec. 7 at around 3:30 a.m., an APD officer contacted Wayne L. Komakhuk, 48, of Eagle River after Komakhuk was spotted sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Eagle River Taco Bell. Komakhuk was arrested for operating under the influence.

Police find wanted man

On Dec. 7 at around 7:53 p.m., police received an anonymous tip about the location of a man wanted on an outstanding felony warrant. Police went to the residence on Chugiak Drive and arrested the man, 25-year-old Gage N. McKenzie, of Eagle River, and took him to the Anchorage Jail.

Shotgun cleaning goes awry

On Dec. 7 at around 10 p.m., police were called to Mirror Drive for a report of gunfire. APD said their investigation revealed that a man was cleaning his shotgun when it slipped out of his hands and discharged, sending a round through his apartment door and into an adjacent unit. Police said there were no injuries and no charges filed.

Man arrested for kicking family member

On Dec. 8 at around 1:25 a.m., police arrested Jeremy L. Reamer, 23, of Chugiak for assault after he allegedly pushed a family member and kicked her in the face after she asked him to leave her residence.

No charges after officer smells weed

On Dec. 9 at around 12:22 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on the Old Glenn Highway for driving without its headlights. Police said there was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, but there wasn’t enough probable cause to charge anyone in the vehicle with a crime.

Woman arrested for allegedly slapping man

On Dec. 9 at around 5 p.m. police responded to Home Place, where they arrested Lora L. Lucero, 47, of Eagle River for assault after she allegedly slapped her ex-boyfriend.

Man arrested for domestic violence

On Dec. 9 at around 9:22 p.m., police responded to a residence on Eagle Place for a report of a fight between a man and wife. Police said the man allegedly hit the woman’s hand and stepped toward her in such a way as to make her fear he would hit her. Police said the man, Dante M. D. Howard, 32, of Eagle River for domestic violence assault.
