Basketball teams wrap up season-opening tourneys
Chugiak’s boys basketball team fell back to earth after a soaring start at the Cougar Tipoff basketball tournament, falling to 70-36 to East in Friday’s semifinal and losing 56-53 to host Service Saturday in the third-place game.
On Friday, Jared Parks led Chugiak with seven points and Marques Andrews had a team-best six rebounds.
Chugiak advanced to the semifinals with a lopsided win over Tikigaq Thursday.
On Saturday, the Mustangs battled Service in a tight, back-and-forth affair. The Mustangs got a game-high 18 points from Jackson Wall on 6-for-14 shooting from behind the 3-point line. Deondrick McCright and Robert Sheldon added eight points each for Chugiak, which led 23-22 at halftime.
William Morgan paced Service with 15 points.
Wolves go 0-3 at Grace
Eagle River dropped all three games at the Grace Grizzly Classic over the weekend, losing 48-43 Saturday to the host Grizzlies.
The Wolves fell to Mt. Edgecumbe and Kodiak in the first two games of the round-robin tournament.
On Saturday, Ryan Adkins and Bryson Rollman had 14 points each to lead the Wolves, who also got 12 from Will Michener.
Nathan Harriman poured in a game-high 17 for Grace Christian.
