Santa Claus to visit quake-rocked Eagle River

After a chaotic couple weeks, a bit of normalcy is set to return to Chugiak-Eagle River Friday night with the return of the annual Winter Wonderland celebration in Town Square Park.

The annual Christmastime event presented by the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce was scheduled to be held Nov. 30, but was postponed after a devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake that morning caused widespread damage in the area, including the closure of two local schools, serious damage to numerous businesses and the loss of several homes.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. and will include holiday music, a cookie station, a soup station, warming barrels, tables from local merchants featuring treats, the lighting of the Christmas tree, horse-drawn carriage rides and a visit from Santa. It’s free and open to all.

Town Square Park is located along Business Boulevard in downtown Eagle River. For more information, visit the Chugiak-Eagle River Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
