ICY HOT: Wolves, Mustangs still unbeaten in prep hockey
Eagle River’s hockey season is off to a howling good start.
The Wolves improved to 3-0 in the Cook Inlet Conference with a 13-0 thrashing of the East Thunderbirds Tuesday at Ben Boeke.
Logan Dudinsky had a hat trick for Eagle River, which got two goals each from Marshall Yeargan, Talyn Meyer and Tay Kurpius and outshot East 78-5. Nick Silance, Ty McEnaney, Brayden Rachow and Tucker Lien also scored for the Wolves.
East goalie Jesse Oja made 65 saves, while Eagle River’s Brenden Whetsell all five shots he faced to earn the shutout.
The Wolves have outscored their opponents 29-2 this season.
Eagle River plays second-place Service (2-1) on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. at the McDonald Center.
Mustangs open CIC season in style
Chugiak remained undefeated with a 2-1 overtime victory Tuesday in its Cook Inlet Conference opener at the McDonald Center in Eagle River.
Jarett Beckett scored the game-winner for the Mustangs, who improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the CIC. Wyatt Young assisted on Beckett’s goal for Chugiak, which led 1-0 after the first period on a Riley Lindberg tally.
Olin Kelliher made 30 saves to backstop the win for Chugiak, which was outshot 31-15.
Chugiak plays West (0-1 CIC) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Ben Boeke.
