Eagle River’s Bob Adkins was rewarded for leading the Wolves to their best season in program history by being named the Alaska Division II Coach of the Year following All-State voting by the state’s football coaches.

Adkins wasn’t the only member of his family honored — son Ryan was named a first-team All-State defensive back and second-team quarterback after leading the Wolves to a program-best 6-3 record and a loss in the state championship game. Adkins was joined on the first team by senior wideout Mason Piper, who also made the second-team as a defensive back.

Wolves junior Orazio Ramos was a two-way second-team selection, making the team as an offensive lineman and as an inside linebacker. He was joined on the second team by senior wide receiver Quanard Cox, senior center Matt Bellman, senior defensive lineman Michael Caywood and junior outside linebacker Tim Pennington. Adkins also made the team as a second-team punter.

Oshesky leads four Mustangs on D-I all-state team

Chugiak junior defensive back Jacob Oshesky was the team’s lone first-team All-State selection following the Mustangs’ 1-8 campaign.

Chugiak had three players named to the second team, with sophomore inside linebacker Christian Beesing, senior offensive guard Kevin Marshall and junior inside linebacker Tyler Huffer also earning recognition.
