Man arrested for assault while delivering newspapers
On Aug. 28 at around 5:50 a.m., Anchorage police received a call from a woman who said she had been assaulted by her ex boyfriend while they were delivering newspapers.
According to police, the woman told them she was driving in Chugiak while her ex, Michael A. X. Tavoliero, 36, of Eagle River was in the passenger seat delivering papers. Police said the woman told them she and Tavoliero got into a verbal argument, at which point she pulled over with the intent of getting out of the car. The woman said Tavoliero then grabbed her around the throat and started hitting her, which caused her to drive into a ditch.
According to police, the woman tried to yell for help, but Tavoliero continued hitting her and choking her. The woman was eventually able to get out of the car and call police.
When officers arrived, they saw the woman had visible injuries, wrote APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad in an account of the incident.
Police located a vehicle matching the description given them by the woman and found Tavoliero driving. Officers blocked the car from driving any further and took Tavoliero into custody. He was taken to Anchorage Jail and booked on charges of second- and fourth-degree assault.
