POLICE BRIEFS: Truck stolen from dead person’s garage…suspicious baggie found to be drug-free…eluding attempt proves a brief success

Baggie found, drugs not
On May 29 at around 4:52 p.m., police were called to a location on Crested Butte Drive by a citizen who found a baggie they thought contained drugs. Police said the substance tested negative for meth and cocaine. Case closed.
Eluding attempt only briefly successful
On May 31 at 8:53 a.m., an APD officer tried to pull over a Toyota Camry allegedly driving 87 MPH on the Glenn Highway. The officer called off the pursuit after the driver allegedly failed to yield and began driving recklessly. A short while later, the officer spotted the Camry parked at the Beach Lake Chalet. A second officer arrived at the scene, at which point both officers spotted a man and woman coming out of the woods. The first officer said he recognized the people as being in the car when he tried to pull it over. The alleged driver, Aaron J. Workman, 42, of Anchorage was arrested on an existing warrant and additionally charged with failure to stop and driving with a revoked license. He was also cited for speeding.
Truck stolen from dead person’s garage
On June 1 at around 1 p.m., police were called to Citation Drive for a report that someone broke into the home of someone who recently died and stole a 1996 green Ford pickup from the garage. The theft was reported by the caretaker of the property. As of Tuesday, June 5, the vehicle had not been recovered.
Wasilla men arrested for OUI in Eagle River
On May 28 at around 11:44 p.m., police were called by someone who reported a vehicle driving dangerously. Police arrived in the area of Lake Hill Drive, pulled the vehicle over and arrested driver Thaxter J. C. Hall, 31, of Wasilla for operating under the influence.
On June 2 at around 2:51 a.m., police were called by someone who reported a Chevy Camaro driving dangerously. Officers arrived and located the vehicle in the Chevron parking lot on the Old Glenn Highway and found the driver, Dillon A. Aafedt, 28, of Wasilla asleep behind the wheel. Aafedt was arrested and charged with operating under the influence. When he arrived at the Anchorage Jail, Aafedt allegedly refused to provide a breath sample and was additionally charged with refusal.
Woman charged with felony OUI
On May 30 at around 5:10 a.m., police were called for a report of a vehicle that couldn’t stay in its lane. Officers arrived in the area of E. Eagle River Loop Road and found the vehicle, which at that point had driven off the road. Officers arrested Christina M. P. Frankson, 29, of Anchorage for felony operating under the influence (three or more OUI offenses in 10 years) and failure to provide insurance. Police said Frankson also failed to provide a breath sample when she got to jail, so they added an additional charge of felony refusal.
Bad brake light leads to arrest
On May 31 at around 8:22 p.m., an APD officer stopped a vehicle on Business Boulevard for an inoperable brake light and allegedly smelled alcohol while speaking to the driver, Ray L. Williams, 58, of Eagle River. Williams was arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with operating under the influence.
