POLICE BRIEFS: APD makes numerous holiday arrests for impaired driving

OUI

On Dec. 18 at around 3:01 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle for driving in the dark with its headlights off near the McDonald Center in Eagle River and arrested Shara R. Delacruz, 38, of Eagle River, for operating under the influence.

OUI

On Dec. 18 at around 4:23 a.m., a citizen called police to report a vehicle weaving on the Glenn Highway near the Hiland Road exit. The citizen was able to follow the vehicle and was eventually met by officers off Muldoon Road in Anchorage. Officers arriving on scene found the vehicle still running with the driver allegedly asleep behind the wheel. The driver, DaJonee M. Hale, 23, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.

OUI

On Dec. 20 at around 3:39 a.m., a citizen called police to report a vehicle stopped in the middle of Birchwood Loop. Officers found the vehicle and searched the driver, Jason F. Loan, 39, of Wasilla. Officers allegedly found Loan in possession of methamphetamine. He was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of marijuana and fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

On Dec. 26 at around 2:16 p.m., two people called police to report a man sleeping in a vehicle at the intersection of Iris Drive and Mercy Way. Officers found the vehicle running with the driver, 57-year-old Robert L. Gardner, of Chugiak, allegedly slumped over the wheel. Gardner was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.

On Dec. 27 at around 2:57 a.m., an officer tried to stop a vehicle that allegedly ran a stop sign. According to police, the driver, William A. Rust, 60, of Eagle River, failed to pull over until pulling into his own driveway despite the officer using lights, sirens and a loudspeaker in an attempt to get him to stop. After pulling in the driveway, Rust tried to exit the vehicle, but stayed inside when directed to do so by the officer. He was later arrested for operating under the influence.

ASSAULT

On Dec. 27 at around 10 p.m., police arrested Roland L. Munson, 65, for assault after he allegedly broke his wife’s chair and used the broken chair legs to bang on her door.

OUI

On Dec. 28 at around 8:44 p.m., an APD officer stopped a pick-up for speeding near the intersection of Eagle River Drive and Raven Lane and arrested the driver, David L. Gurican, 61, of Anchorage, for operating under the influence.

ASSAULT

On Dec. 28 at around 9:44 p.m., officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a man and his son, 27-year-old Shawn A. Homan of Arizona. Homan was accused of being drunk, throwing things and pounding on walls. He was arrested for assault.

OUI

On Dec. 30 at around 3:47 a.m., someone called police to report a vehicle in the median on Eagle River Loop Road with an apparently intoxicated driver. Officers arrived and found the driver, James P. Janezich, 20, of Anchorage, allegedly asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle. Janezich was arrested and charged with operating under the influence.

ELUDING

On Dec. 31 at around 12:25 a.m., an APD officer spotted a vehicle at Walmart that had been reported stolen. The officer tried to stop the Toyota 4Runner on Eagle River Road, but the female driver sped off and the officer ended the chase due to safety concerns. Police said the case is pending.
